ALENKA ZUPAN

Flute

Alenka Zupan is one of the most known Slovenian flutists and an extraordinary flute teacher, who is firmly devoted to flute education and development.

She started her flute studies in Koper and continued in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Alenka studied at two faculties: Ljubljana Pedagogic Faculty and Ljubljana Academy of Music in the class of Professor Fedja Rupel, where she graduated with greatest distinctions. She continued her postgraduate studies at “Accademia Italiana del Flauto”, Rome, Italy, with Professor Raymond Giout and at “Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris”, France, with Professor Christian Cheret. In Paris, she concluded her studies with the highest degree of excellence and recognition. In September 2006, she completed a Master Degree program: Special didactics of playing flute, at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana

Alenka Zupan is an excellent flutist, with highly sound sensitiveness and expression impresses the listeners. She performs regularly as a soloist, with a number of domestic and foreign musicians and artists in various chamber ensembles. She regularly performs in solo concerts in Slovenia, in Europe, Thailand and the United States. She has published the CD, “Breath of Life”. She has recorded with the Coastal Chamber Orchestra, with various other chamber ensembles, and solo for Radio-TV Koper, Radio-TV Slovenia, Radio Malta. With guitarist Marko Feri they issued a CD entitled VIEWS (2016) through publisher Baros Records (www.barosrecords.com/views).

Alenka Zupan is known as excellent and successful flute and chamber music professor at Koper Music School since 1997 and at the Koper High Art School since 1999. With her students she has made a series of exceptional successes in competitions at home and abroad, and prepared them to further flute studies.

Alenka organizes every summer flute workshop for young flutists, named “Pikolo” in Bled (18th edition), Slovenia, International flute festival “FlavtIstra” in Koper (4th edition-biannual), Slovenia and many workshops and seminars for Flute teachers and students. She kept a number of seminars and workshops in Slovenia, Croatia, Monte Negro, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, France, the United States.

In 2009, she published three manuals for flute, entitled Exercises for Flute I, II, III. In 2014, she published manual for the youngest flute-fife students titled A Journey with Fife. In 2015 she upgraded her collection with the manual for flute students, entitled A Journey with Flute. In 2016 she received the “Fran Gerbic” award for outstanding contribution in music education from Slovenian Music Schools Association.
