Fabio Sperandio, stemming from a family of musicians, graduated in violin studies, achieving the highest grades and honors (summa cum laude) at the “Istituto Musicale Pareggiato O. Vecchi” (musical institute) in Modena and then specialized with Salvatore Accardo at the W. Stauffer Academy in Cremona and with Ana Chumachenco at the Musikhochshule in Munich. As concertmaster, he has collaborated with great conductors, such as C.M. Giulini, R. Muti, E.Inbal, Z. Mehta in many Italian Theaters (La Fenice Theatre in Venice, Verdi Theatre in Trieste, “Orchestra RAI” in Turin) and also German ones, developing a strong passion for the orchestra conducting.

He approached the studies concerning orchestra conducting, following Pietro Bellugi’s lessons in Florence with Florence Sinfonietta and Ralf Weickert in the Gargano territory, has then attended Luciano Acocella’s courses at Bologna Conservatory and has concluded his studies specializing in contemporary repertoire with Arturo Tamayo, conducting Stockhausen’s Zeitmasse. He has then studied music composition with Silvia Colasanti and Paolo Geminiani.

Alberto Zedda has defined him as a conductor “by the beautiful, gentle and clear, elegant and authoritative gestuality, with excellent correspondence to the musical context” and Donato Renzetti has chosen him to conduct “The Marriage of Figaro” in Cagli, with Leo Muscato’s direction and the Philharmonic Orchestra” G. Rossini “ from Pesaro.

He debuted in Berlin for MärzMusik2013 with a classical music extract of B.Ferneyhough for great orchestra, by conducing the Konzerthaus Orchester.

He has always been fascinated by the contemporary languages, in 2012 he founded Ensemble Zipangu, a string orchestra for contemporary music, with the members of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, promoting our current music and, in December 2013 has conducted a concert at the Cappella Paolina in the Quirinal Palace, with music of B.Britten, C.Vivier and G. Ligeti, which was live from Radio3.

For the Del Monte Foundation in Bologna, has managed the planning and execution of concerts, focused on women composers, giving much space to the best world and Italian premiers of authors such as Ada Gentile, Silvia Colasanti, Ana Sokolovic.

Also convinced advocate for the diffusion of the contemporary repertory even among the youngers, in cooperation with DAMS of Bologna, the Philarmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale, the Conservatories of Padua and Bologna, the Musica Antica of Assisi and the network of schools “Musicalliceo”, he has cared about the project on the Suite from Pollicino of Werner Henze, which has obtained a note of merit at the “Abbado Award” for the school and that has been hosted by the International Cantiere di Montepulciano.

He is regularly present at some festivals, as for example at MITO, Angelica and at the Cantiere di Montepulciano.

In 2017 Nicola Sani has invited him to close Bologna Modern#2 festival, in collaboration with the Teatro Comunale of Bologna and Musica Insieme, with a monographic concert for Azio Corghi’s eighty years birthday, that has been really appreciated by the critics, improved by the soprano Laura Catrani and the pianist Maurizio Baglini, with whom he will perform, together with the Roma Tre Orchestra, in a program with music of Haydn, Chopin and Corghi.

Moreover, in 2018 the Theatre G. Verdi in Pordenone has invited him to conduct l’Histoire du Soldat of Stravinskij in its original version with the direction of Gianni Farina and Menoventi/e-production and the Padua and Veneto Orchestra, with a sacral contemporary music program.

Since he is also active as ensemble conductor, in 2017 he has began a project to execute G. Mahler symphonies, transcribed for a reduced orchestra that, after having performed the “Titano”, shall continue with Des Knaben Wunderhorn and the Ninth Symphony.

With the soloists of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bologna, he has inaugurated the homonymous chamber music season, with the suite of Histoire du soldat and D. Baker music. His first cd will be issued in April 2019, guiding Ensemble Zipangu, with the recording of a world-premiere of A large house of Cassandra Miller for strings and percussions and some C. Palestine’s music, for the label Dischi di Angelica.
