Žiga Cerar (Ljubljana 1978) obtained a master's degree in violin at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the class of prof. Paul Roczek, Later he specialized with Prof. Christiane Hutcap, assistant of prof. Igor Ozim, at the Musikhochschule in Rostock and as part of the Erasmus program, was admitted to the class of Professor Sylvia Gazeau at the prestigious Conservatoire national supérieur de musique in Paris. He regularly attended specialization courses with masters such as: Igor Ozim, Evgenija ÄŒugajeva, Patrice Fontanarosa, Dora Schwarzberg idr.

In recent years he has participated, obtaining prizes and special mentions in many national and international competitions. From a very young age Žiga had a great passion for chamber and orchestral music. From 2002 to 2004 he was a member of the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, in 2007 he founded the Octissimo string octet, and later the Quartissimo string quartet.

The formation has performed on many occasions with classic programs, but also with pop music, participating in the Euro Song in Moscow. In 2004 he became a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Slovenian Philharmonic and in 2006 he also joined the Philharmonic chamber string orchestra.

With the two formations he has performed in numerous concerts and tours all over the world, collaborating with conductors such as Riccardo Muti and Valerij Gergijev, and with important soloists such as Miša Majski, Ana Netrebko, Sarah Chang and many others.

Žiga Cerar has recorded several CDs playing in different ensembles, among the most important the disc recorded with the symphony orchestra of the Philharmonic for the Deutsche Grammophon must certainly be mentioned.

For his commitments in the Slovenian cultural field he was awarded with the Betettova listina prizes and with the special mention of the city of Ljubljana - Plaketa mesta Ljubljana.

Žiga teaches violin and conducts the orchestras of the Koper Music School and the Koper Art School, thus passing on his experience and passion for music to young people. For years he has been organizing a summer campus of Mali Filharmonik orchestral music, in which students of string instruments from all over Slovenia participate.

As part of the Friends of Music Association, he founded a string ensemble with which he enriches the musical and cultural offer of the city of Koper.
